From our modest beginnings as a 17-location pharmacy chain in 1962, Shoppers Drug Mart has grown to become Canada’s largest retail drug store group with a network of 44,000 Pharmacist -Owners, Pharmacists and Staff in communities across the country.
Our founder, Murray Koffler, instilled a strong sense of pride, accountability and community spirit in our first few stores more than 45 years ago.
He said, “We will never give up on the foundations of our business that have stood the test of time – a focus on the needs of our patients and customers in the communities we serve across this great land.”
Evident from the beginning, Shoppers Drug Mart is more than a chain of retail drug stores. We are an integral part of 1,000 communities and neighborhoods across Canada. Every single Shoppers Drug Mart is operated by a single Pharmacist-Owner. These Pharmacist-Owners are committed to serving the health care needs of their community with personal service, professional expertise and community spirit. Who better to understand the needs of your community than a member of your own neighborhood?
Forty-five years after we opened our first store, we opened our 1,000th store in Canada and in that time we have never lost sight of our community connection. We continue to provide health care, beauty and convenience products and services to Canadians from coast to coast, building relationships with the people we serve in the communities where we do business.
Health is our business and we believe that with health, everything is possible. Shoppers Drug Mart is committed to supporting the charities and community groups that help Canadians lead healthy, active lives.
We support national, provincial and regional non-profit health charities, and consistent with our community focus, we also commit to a local giving focus through our Tree of Life community donation program where last year over 245 grass roots level health charities and seven national health charities were supported . We know that giving back to our communities is the right thing to do and that our ongoing support for health-related causes, our involvement in our communities, our corporate giving and charitable donations help make a difference to the patients and customers we serve in the communities where we live and work.
